UVN - Chapter 4 UNFINISHEDChapter Five

I could hear the soft patter of rain on a roof top somewhere. The sound was soothing, but not enough to deal with the painful headache throbbing in the space behind my eye sockets. Even with my eyes closed and the soft rain, it still felt like someone was inside my head driving nails into that single spot.

I could hear voices somewhere outside the door, a few males mixed with the voice of a female. I suppose they were talking quietly, but every sound hurt my head at that time. I gave a small groan and the voices stopped suddenly. The sound of chairs scraping back and a loud rustling replaced the talking.

  The stale air burned my lungs as I propelled myself up yet another flight of stairs, passing several more doors. I continued running, pushing myself, afraid to open any of them for fear that I would run into more of whatever those creatures were. The primal scream echoed through the stairwell as I ran faster, chest screaming for fresh air, muscles begging for rest as I tried to put as much space between myself and whatever was behind me.

  A rush of ice cold water rushed over my body and I convulsed involuntarily, my back arching up to meet the source of the wave, a piercing scream escaping my lips. I shivered, my body slowly lowering itself back to the stone wall, which seemed warmer now compared to the water. My kimono clung to my body, the loose strands of my soaked hair sticking to my face as I tried to opened my eyes.
