Chapter Five
[awakening]

I could hear the soft patter of rain on a roof top somewhere. The sound was soothing, but not enough to deal with the painful headache throbbing in the space behind my eye sockets. Even with my eyes closed and the soft rain, it still felt like someone was inside my head driving nails into that single spot.

I could hear voices somewhere outside the door, a few males mixed with the voice of a female. I suppose they were talking quietly, but every sound hurt my head at that time. I gave a small groan and the voices stopped suddenly. The sound of chairs scraping back and a loud rustling replaced the talking.

After a few moments the door creaked open somewhere to my left. I groaned again as the noise made the headache throb again. A strong hand lifted me up to prop me against the pillows and placed something steaming in my hands.

"Good to know you're finally awake. You've been sleeping for a long time now..." The voice trailed off but I was in slight shock. Opening my eyes a bit and wincing, I turned my attention to the female that had entered.

"My name's Chesna..." She said, extending a small and delicate hand. My mind seemed to slip deeper into the state of shock it had entered. I did not expect that something so frail could be so strong, but then I noticed the abnormal set of incisors and winced.

Apparently she caught my drift. She dropped her hand for a small moment before bringing one of her fingers to touch her teeth. Her hand fell again and she pursed her lips, shuffling her feet against what sounded like hardwood flooring.

"The tea... It will help your head ache and ease the pain... I hope you're not allergic to Willow or Dandelion.. Or Ginger, Ginseng or Pepermint for that matter... Actually allergies to common herbs are uncommon.. they only really occur in about two percent of the population..." The girl, Chesna, was rambling now. Her words trailed off for a bit after "Not wanting to trust things like us." and she stood there wringing her hands together for a moment before leaving the room.

I sat there blinking for a moment, staring into the cup of tea still in my hands. The brownish liquid didn't particularly smell rancid, but it had an odd, Earthy smell to it that made my stomach churn. A small white froth floated on the surface of the ripples created by my slight shaking.

Slowly I tried to gather my thoughts but they seemed to be as muddy as the liquid I was focusing on. Slowly the memories started to form after a bit. The circus music and the dank dungeon. The fragil child-like woman that had been my capter, and her mate. I remembered the words he spat at me, chained to the chair. Vykolakas, Asabosan, Vampyre. I repeated the words slowly to myself as I sat there in the bed, inhaling the earthy aroma of the tea.

The cup had started to cool in my hands as I tried to gather myself. I gave it my attention again and debated on whether or not I should actually trust these new beings. They had saved me from what seemed to be a terrible fate, but that was not enough to earn my trust. Slowly I lifted the cup to my lips and took a small drink. I gagged instantly but forced the liquid down. It was bitter and sweet at the same time, but not the type of sweet you enjoy, more the kind of sickening sweet where you could tell that it would get worse as it cooled. I forced another, larger drink down, gaging again. Deffenently too sweet, but my headache began to go away after a few minutes and I finished the tea. I wasn't dead yet, so I took that as a good sign.

I sat the empty cup on the small oak night stand I discovered next to the bed and looked around the room. It was lined with book shelves stacked to the brim with ancient looking books and rolls of paper. A small desk sat at the other end of the room between two of the shelves, cluttered with more books and papers. A small table lamp on top of a stack of books there proved to be the source of the light that had made me wince earlier.

The bed I was propped up in was nestled into the corner to the right of the door.
Some Vampire novel I've been working on for over 4 years now.

The process altogether?
----2 years worth or researching old vampire myths and stuff, plus a lot of linguistics research as well as name meaning researching.
-----2 months of writing.
-----Laptop crashed, I lost all information and all of my research.
-----2 more years of re-researching all of the stuff I had (still not done).
-----3 weeks of editing what I had written already.
-----5 months in limbo.
-----2 months having various friends and family members review and critique it to give me a confidence boost to continue researching and writing.

talk about a tough process :/

Interesting story, I really like it! :) Overall, it's a really good idea! I'd say the only thing to improve is the grammar and spelling. I noticed that when you started out, there were many errors, but you progressively made less and less. Also, your paragraphing is a bit odd, but I have that problem too, so don't feel bad! :D I hope you continue it! :) :) :)
